Guns Into Art (GITA) is committed to obtaining and destroying small arms in war-torn regions before these weapons can be shifted to another conflict.
Tragically, due to the incompetence of the Bush administration war has returned to Afghanistan. The conflict will cause weapons to flow into the country and further strengthen the the view that being armed is essential for survival.
My impression having been there is that the Afghan people are done fighting and that Afghanistan is acting a safety valve for simmering civil war in Pakistan. Young fighters can be sent to Afghanistan from Pakistan to work their anger out or die, but as the US and NATO are more successful in pushing the Taliban out of Afghanistan the kettle will boil in Pakistan and it will sink into civil war.
